Burton Trophy & Jeffrey’s Cup
OOD Rohithe Amarasinghe
With seven boats on the water the Burton Trophy & Jeffrey’s Cup were sailed for on Sunday. A series of 3 races took place with winds increasing over the 3 races. It was a pleasure to welcome Martin Brennan & his wife Janice from Hollingwiorth Lake Sailing Club to CMYC. Martin last sailed in Sri Lanka in the GP14 World Championship in 2011. Needless to say he put on a fine display in an unfamiliar boat and won all three races.
As a non member he was not eligible to win a trophy so the honours went to Joe Kenny and Richard Gould for the Burton Trophy with Duncan & Gail a very close second. Joe & Richard won in both categories but as a sailor is only allowed to win one trophy Rohithe & Rajitha won the Jeffrey’s Cup.
After the presentation of trophies Martin very kindly presented Mini & Janaka with plaques from his sailing achievements at his own club, Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club as a thank you for the loan of their boat (Mini) & excellent crew (Janaka). Much appreciated.
Well done to all who sailed, supported and made for another great mix of sailing & socialising.
