This Sunday saw 11 boats on the water in two fleets, with 4 GP14s and a Laser competing for the Maersk Trophy and the Optis putting on a fine display of sailing in their race.
Nadine laid the Opti course and they were off first. Close racing followed and it was excellent to see the younger members on the water showing off their skills.
In the Opti class Mathisha was placed 3rd, Tarini was placed 2nd and Dhanika took line honours. Shortly after his victory he jumped ship and took to the water in a GP14 but, although he sailed with great skill, he was still not able to beat the formidable pairing of Anil and Michelle Gunawardane who took line honours in all three races for the Maersk Trophy. Their outstanding performance gave them 1st place in both the fleet race and the Maersk Trophy.
Premukshi kindly donated the generous prizes but unfortunately had to leave before the prizegiving. The contribution was greatly appreciated by the winners and made the day even more special.
After the sailors completed the third and final race the attention turned to the bar where the ladies had once again excelled with their efforts in the kitchen putting on a fabulous curry lunch followed by cakes with chocolate sauce. It was the perfect end to another perfect day at the club.
Thanks again to all who helped make the day a success.
Next week sees the hydroplane powerboats take to the water followed by a sailing fleet race.
As usual there will be music and the BBQ will be lit on the lawn for all to use.
