Bart's Bash 13th September 2020
The 2020 Bart’s Bash was worked off on the Bolgoda Lake, in sunny Sri Lanka on the 13th of September at the Ceylon Motor Yacht Club.
Early indications were of strong winds, however by race time (1240 local time) the wind had moderated to 9 knots, with gusts of up to 12 knots from a WSW direction. Officer of the Day, Jon Trepte, assisted by Anil Gunawardena set a challenging course measuring over 6km.
The Sri Lanka Navy sent in a strong contingent which bolstered the total fleet to 31 vessels of various types; GP14’s, Enterprise, Laser Standard, Laser 4.7 and Laser Radial. Not forgetting the 4 young club sailors who took to the water in their Optis.
After one recall caused by several over-eager competitors, the fleet finally set off. Each mark was tightly contested and the final result was in doubt until the very end. WM Marambe took the honors, however, with Upul Gnanawardana taking second place to clinch the top two spots for the Navy. CMYC’s Jordan Bolling put up a great performance to take third place.
It was a very entertaining race enjoyed by competitors and spectators alike.
The entertainment continued post-race with barbecue and games ashore.
